Color of Love Blog Hop (and Contest!)

Today I’m participating in The Color of Love Blog Hop, and I’m answering this question:

“Why do/did you write a multicultural romance?”

Well you see, all of my stories feature a diverse cast of characters.

I’m a big proponent of what I call Equal Opportunity Loving. In my ideal world, the heart does not discriminate based on skin color, ethnicity, nationality, sexuality, body type, or (make-believe) species, or – at times – gender. I believe in compatibility of the soul.

I highlight this theme by using a diverse cast of characters in my stories, to show all kinds of people falling in love and getting in and out of trouble, together. I don’t want to write about the same kinds of characters over and over, but to spin tales that are inclusive and relatable for everyone.

Multiculturalism is something I still don’t see enough of in the genres I love; science fiction / futuristic, paranormal and  fantasy. My work is an attempt to help remedy that.

My novella, The Summoning, is a paranormal tale about a bi-racial woman who is a psychic that can communicate with the spirit world. She encounters a being from the Other Side who needs her just as much as she needs him. The story itself was an idea that had been rattling in my mind for years, but I chose to make it multicultural because I couldn’t come up with very many examples of stories like that with any ethnic lead characters.

I have a book coming out on December 18 that also features an ethnic hero and heroine that are shapeshifters, Werecats to be exact! Cat Out of the Bag is the first book in a series, and I’ve very excited about it. I’d been fantasizing about ethnic shifters forever. 😉

I’m glad you like it, Empi. Some have looked at me funny when I use the term, but I’m determined make “Equal Opportunity Loving” a phrase known and supported worldwide. 🙂

Thank you so much – it was great to have you stop by!
