Why Shapeshifters Are Hot

Mystique from Xmen

The countdown is on – only 6 more days before CAT OUT OF THE BAG goes live!  In celebration of the release of the first book in my paranormal erotic romance series, By the Tail, I’d like to discuss my fascination with the fantasy of shapeshifters. Which is what this series is all about.

Why shapeshifters? Because they are hot, that’s why. Fun, sexy, wild, just simply hot. In just in case you don’t see it, here’s 5 reasons why:

  1. They get to break the rules.

Life is full of so many laws, restrictions and regulations. Slow down. Don’t go out naked.  Wait in line.  Use a fork. Ask your spouse for permission before you hump him. The downside of being part of a civilized society is that you are expected to conform and comply, at all times.

But a shapeshifter doesn’t have to conform all the time — because they don’t have to be human, all of the time!  It must be nice to get to be an animal every once in a while. To be able to kick off your shoes and drop your pants. To drop our man-made worries for a bit and just enjoy the simplicity of simply being alive, and the beauty of the natural world we live in. To be a lazy kitty who sleeps all day and gets high on catnip in front of the whole family, and still get rewarded with back rubs and treats. I bet my husband wouldn’t look at me like I was crazy for humping the couch if I were a Cocker Spaniel.

  1. We get to see their alter egos.

The very first shifter I remember being fascinated with was The Incredible Hulk.  Dr. Banner is an intelligent, reserved, quiet spoken scientist, who transformed into a giant, savage creature (with delicious looking thighs, might I add) whenever he gets angry. I found the fact that this nerdy character had a pants-bursting monster within that he could barely control to be very relatable. And rather arousing.

  1. Be all that you can be … Super Powered!

Heightened senses. Inhuman speed. Super strength. Sharp claws. Imagine being your own guard dog or weapon, always on the ready in case you need to get out of a fix. Now that’s boss.

  1. Real voices in our heads.

Never get in trouble again for eating all the cookies or streaking naked down the block! Hardly anyone ever buys the “the voices in my head made me do it” excuse, but there’s no denying the demon that everyone can see. A shapeshifter could always just say “My wolf made me do it!”

  1. There’s a beast in all of us.

I’m not necessarily talking about an alter ego. I’m talking about that inner animal that is you, yet you put forth an effort to keep it tame (because it’s not polite to bite people’s head off, no matter HOW much you might want to).  A shapeshifter’s alter form is the physical manifestation of some of their biggest flaws (or greatest assets). So lastly, shapeshifters are hot because deep down, we can actually relate to them. You and me baby, we ain’t nothing but mammals!

Do you like shapeshifters? If you could be one, what would you shift into?

Eartha Kitt – I Want To Be Evil (Live Kaskad 1962)

I present to you one of my idols. The beautiful, talented, sultry Eartha Kitt.

Why was this woman so fabulous? How much more of her fabulous (outside of her Catwoman role) did I miss? And oh my god the pigtails with that song – she reminds me of someone I know …

(Thanks, Wilfredo!)

13 Reasons Why “Legend Of the Seeker” is Hot

I just finished watching the first season of Legend of the Seeker, an action-adventure fantasy television series based on The Sword of Truth novels by Terry Goodkind.  Because I haven’t read the books yet I can’t vouch for how true or not the show is to the books, but on its own it’s quite entertaining.

(I don’t think film and serials should be directly compared against novels they’re derived from anyways – they are different mediums for story-telling and therefore impossible to keep identical.)

Here’s 13 reasons why I think this show is hot:

  1. Magic and mayhem abounds
  2. It’s action-packed and adventurous
  3. Actors that are well suited for their roles (they definitely get better over time)
  4. Richard Cypher, “The Seeker”, is so yumm!
  5. Honorable heroes and heroines that stick to their morals (even when it’s really, really hard)
  6. Mmmm …. forbidden love
  7. There are so few good fun Fantasy series on TV!
  8. Hot men tortured by hot women (there’s something wonderful about a gorgeous guy helplessly hanging from the ceiling, dontcha think?)
  9. The writing is surprisingly smart – even the bad guys are more clever than you’d expect
  10. Women that kick butt and look good while doing it
  11. The characters often end up in seemingly hopeless predicaments with high tension, and you won’t often be able to guess how they’re going to get out of it
  12. Stunning costumes – I want this white one …
  13. Each episode is better than the one before

Do you watch Legend of the Seeker? If so, I’d love to hear what you think.

Why “It’s a Boy Girl Thing” Is Hot

Netflix’s movie recommendation equations are genius. I just recently rented and watched a movie that I’d never heard of before. And I adored it. It’s called It’s a Boy  Girl Thing and it’s hot!

It's a Boy Girl Thing

It takes the Freaky Friday plotline that’s been done numerous times before – where a mother and daughter switch bodies, or a father and son, even a young woman and an old man as in Prelude to a Kiss – and puts a new twist on it. Here, two teenagers who are classmates and next door neighbors that don’t get along end up cursed by the mysterious and magical body-swapping phenomenon.

This movie was very cute, a little naughty at times, funny and surprisingly romantic. I can’t think of the last time a romantic comedy did so well of a job making me both laugh and sigh. And I don’t know – maybe there is something very sentimental about a young man and woman literally taking a walk in each other’s shoes in order to fully understand and appreciate the other.

If only we could do that in real life, right?

The roles weren’t easy to pull off, but the actors did a great job and made the movie easy to watch over and over.

If anybody else has seen this It’s a Boy Girl Thing, let’s discuss. If you haven’t – check it out because it’s HOT!

Why “The Taming of The Shrew” is Hot

So I rented BBC – Drama’s Shakespeare Retold. It’s a 2-disc series that contains 4 different modern interpretations of Shakespeare classics, and I became temporarily infatuated with one of them: The Taming of the Shrew.

Now, I’m not sure if it’s itty bitty Shirley Henderson’s enormous amount of animated acting energy that enthralled me:

Or how hilariously well Rufus Sewell played the eccentric scoundrel that “tames” her (damn, he’s even sexy in fishnets):

Or if it’s the chemistry between the two that hooked me:

Either way, I found this movie as equally hilarious as it was romantic. Very few recent romantic comedies have moved me in this way. Honestly, as soon as it ended I started it over and watched it again. And then twice more the next day. But then again … I am a bit of a weirdo, aren’t I.

Anyways if you haven’t seen Shakespeare Retold, I think you should, even if just for this segment. If you do, let me know what you think!

Hot Stuff: “True Blood”

If you’re not watching HBO’s show True Blood, you’re missing out. I personally can’t seem to get enough of it. I mean, on Sunday nights I get all tingly when the clock changes from 7:59 to 8.  It’s no Buffy (not that anything was wrong with Buffy). It’s dark, it’s sexy, it’s graph, it’s disturbing and it’s romantic. An interesting combination, I know. This is my kind of show!  Here’s why:

  • It has vampires
  • It has sexy vampires
  • It has sexy vampires having sex
  • There’s a telepathic human chick
  • It has other paranormal characters, like shape-shifters
  • The fantasy world very real
  • It has mystery and suspense
  • It has a wide-range of interesting characters
  • It has a multi-cultural cast

One more major reason I love this show. Even the gay character turns me on. Oooh Lafayette … please, please turn into a vampire.

It is based on the Sookie Stackhouse book series (also known as The Southern Vampire Mysteries) by Charlaine Harris. Season 2 just started, and I am already hanging on the edge of my seat waiting for the next episode.

HOT RATING: 5 out of 5 flames

If you haven’t been watching and missed the entire first season, I highly recommend you buy it. (click the picture for the link to purchase the Season 1 DVD set)

Why Star Trek is Hot #8: Space!

This is it folks.  The last day of 8 Days of Why Star Trek is Hot post. The husband and I have a date scheduled for tomorrow night which includes going to see Star Trek, and so my suffering will end soon. I have a feeling that seeing the movie will only give me a host of new characters and reasons to be turned on, though. But heh, that would have to be a whole ‘nother post.

So last but certainly not least on the list of why Star Trek turns me on is … *drumroll* …. ** Space **

Yes, you did hear me correctly. I said outer space.

It’s gorgeous (click the pic). The sheer size of it. The unknown possibilities. The theories and hypotheses. The unanswered questions and mind-boggling phenomena just begging to be explored. Are we alone? Do we or do we not really get visited? How old is the universe? What else is out there? Are there other earth-like planets? Why are we here? Will we ever get there?  **tingles all over with excitement**

If we had the means and I was given the privildge, I’d definitely boldly go where no man has gone before. In the meantime I’ll just have to use my imagination, but that’s quite alright because it’s quite vivid. **winks**

Why Star Trek is Hot #7: T’Pol!

As I mentioned yesterday as part of my 8 Days of Star Trek series, I haven’t even really watched Enterprise yet. The few times I did allow myself to briefly check out an episode or two was because either Archer was doing something that caught my eye, or the super-sexy **T’Pol** was steaming up the scene. Quite literally steaming it up. I mean seriously, 2 of the 3 times I’ve seen part of the show, T’Pol was naked and steamy wet with another hot crewmate and STILL being perfectly unfazed by it. Wowza!

Since you already learned on Day 1 that I have a fetish for elves and thus Vulcans, it should come as no surprise that this full-blooded and emotionally-reserved curvy Vulcan is on my Hot list. I started making a list of reasons why she turns me on, but it was very redundant to my Spock list I already shared with you, so I scrapped it.  Also, check out those kissable lips of hers, the pixie-hair cut and the way she’s working her outfits and I think it’s clear. T’Pol is sexy.

Some may argue that T’Pol doesn’t look as good in her body-hugging “uniform” as the ex-Borg unit Seven of Nine does …

But Seven came off as kinda dumb and dull and so she didn’t make my Hot list. Sorry Seven, resistance isn’t futile. But now trying to resist T’Pol on the other hand …

Come back for the final day of 8 Days of Star Trek hotness!

Why Star Trek is Hot #6: Captain Archer!

It’s day 6 of my 8 Days of Star Trek series and I have confession to make.  The Star Trek hottie that I want to recognize today is a character I don’t even know very well because I haven’t watched his show (apparently hardly anyone else has, either).  Oh I do plan to check out Star Trek Enterprise soon, but I must admit that I’ve only seen one or two episodes, and not even in their entirety. Not because I didn’t enjoy what I saw, but rather because I was actually a bit too busy during the time the series started to get hooked on yet another great show. But this fact does not stop me from thinking that Captain Jonathan **Archer ** is totally hot.

I mean, I only watched enough to see that he is a very cool, real and down-to-earth captain. Very human and imperfect but eager to learn and grow. But who am I kidding – the character Archer could be the biggest jerk in this sector of the galaxy and I’d probably still think he was hot so long as he was played by Scott Bakula. I first fell for Bakula in Quatum Leap and I think the impression he left on me in that series is permanent.  That, and various pictures of him like this circulating the net:

So yeah. Archer is hot. The End.

There’s still 2 more days of hotness to go so come back for more 8 Days of Star Trek!
