This is the Extras page for the erotic paranormal/ multicultural novella CAT OUT OF THE BAG, book one in the “By the Tail” series. Here you will find additional behind-the-scenes content and information relating to the story (like extras on a movie’s DVD).
I hope you enjoy!
** Original Publisher and Artwork **
The first book in my “By The Tail” series, CAT OUT OF THE BAG, was originally published by Ellora’s Cave on December 18, 2013. In 2016 my rights were reverted back to me, and I re-published under Verbal Vixen Press in November 2016.
Here’s the original cover for CAT OUT OF THE BAG as it was published by Ellora’s Cave.
** Current Cover **
The current cover for CAT OUT OF THE BAG was created by my husband and founder of The Digital Hook. This cover is a LOT more in line with the way I described the main character in this story than the original cover did. Even the hero looks more like I imagined him, even though he is only pictured her in cat form.
** Inspiration **
There’s this long-time running joke between my husband and I that I am more cat than human. Here’s just a few pieces of “evidence” he loves to use:
- I was born under the Leo zodiac sign
- These days I often sport a mane of thick, wild, frizzy hair
- I climb all over him and often sit or lay on him (which he loves)
- Big Cats are my favorite animals and cats are my favorite pets, and until recently I have almost always had a cat
- I give love sniffles and nibbles
I could list more, but you get the gist. So it was only natural that I felt compelled to write a series about Werecats, right?
The first chapter of CAT OUT OF THE BAG takes place on an airplane, and was inspired by my active and very naughty imagination while sitting in very close quarters next to a stranger on a small plane with super tight seating. I kept thinking during that entire flight, “Damn – we’re so close up on each other, we might as well be lovers.”
… And my muse went on from there.
Just in case you were wondering though, no actual cats, people or shifters were hurt or violated during the making of this book. Well er, um, husbands don’t count.
** Related Facts & Trivia **
CAT OUT OF THE BAG features a multi-cultural couple, starring an afro-latina woman named Sofia Saldana, who was inspired by Rosario Dawson. While I was on that plane, I was fantasizing that it was my pretend-boo Jesse Williams sitting next to me, so consequently the hero, Nathan Dawson, was inspired by him. (It was a dang good fantasy, let me tell ya!)
Sofia and Nathan are both Mountain Lion Werecat shifters in this story, and here they are in cat form, as I imagine them:
