Tati’s Weekly Checkup – 9.13.10

I wish this was my list ...

Since so many people ask me what I’m up to these days and what book am I working on now, I figure I need to do a better job of sharing what’s going on with me and my works in progress. So welcome to the very first “Tati’s Weekly Checkup” post!

Here’s a summary of how last week went for me.

The Good:

  • Surgery’s over. My husband had surgery the week before last to remove a golf-ball-sized growth on his thyroid (and part his thyroid had to come out as well). The surgery went well! The growth turned out to be benign, he’s healed nicely hasn’t been on pain meds at all for a several days now. So glad that’s over and done with.
  • Andriod! I’ve got the new Samsung Epic 4G smartphone, powered by Android, and I must say – I’m pleased. Smartphones with keyboards and OS’s that seamlessly integrated with my Google applications – rocks.
  • Game on. I actually managed to fit in a little bit of gaming time for a change. I played the The Secret Armory of General Knoxx expansion for Borderlands with my husband for some quality couple time (hey, we’re geeks, okay?)

The Bad:

  • Medical bills. I know they’re coming. And they won’t be pretty.
  • Political arguments. I’m just not a big fan of them. Not the arguments themselves, per se, but how overly emotional people tend to get when discussing them, even to the point of attacking folks they care about. Ugh @ that.
  • Cancer. My very good friend just recently learned that her mother’s breast cancer has spread to her lymph nodes. The prognosis she got wasn’t so great, but I’m hoping she beats the odds. It’s actually rather frightening. I personally know 6 people just  in the past 24 months alone who have either been diagnosed with cancer or had to be biopsied for it. This is a disturbing trend to me. I really hope that the wide-spread, apocalypse-creating disease that horror and thriller writers like to tell stories about isn’t already here …

The Funny:

Spelling. My oldest son is in first grade, and at school he has an assignment each week where he’s to try to spell a word he hasn’t been taught. His instinctual spellings are HILARIOUS, and add further proof to my declaration that the English language is wonky :-D . Here’s some of his spellings:

  • carit (carrot)
  • fiyer (fire)
  • lalleypop (lollipop)
  • ranebo (rainbow)

The Cool:

Reviews. People are reading and talking about SAY MY NAME! There are reviews at:

Contests. I held my first contest ever, and was able to choose a winner and send her the prize – a free copy of my eBook!

The Work In Progress:

I recently finished writing the draft of a sci-fi romance novella, WAY OUT OF CONTROL, about an experiment gone very wrong.  I have a writing buddy looking it over while I take a short break from that story (so that when I come back to revise and edit it I can do so with feedback and fresh eyes).

In the meantime I’m working on polishing my paranormal erotic romance THE SUMMONING, so I can submit it for possible publication. This story features a psychic and her naughty spiritual helper. I’m about halfway through my revisions, and hope to be done and ready to submit by the end of the week.

So that’s what’s going on with me. And I’m off to kick off another action-packed week!
