2010 Mid-Year Goal Update

by ** Tatiana Caldwell ** on July.6.2010

Half of 2010 is over already – can you believe it? I hardly can – boy did time fly. At the beginning of the year, I made a list of 10 goals I want to accomplish in 2010, and now seems like a good time to do a review to see how I’ve been measuring up.

  1. Write at least 1500 words every day – STRUGGLING. Unfortunately, I haven’t been as consistently prolific with my fiction writing as I would like. However, I’m rearranging my schedule and priorities to help better achieve this goal.
  2. Finish 6 novellas – BEHIND A BIT. At this point in time, I have 2 novellas finished, 1 novella needing revisions, and another novella halfway drafted. Not too bad – I’ve got 6 more months to finish the 2 already started and to write 2 more – if I can get diligent about sticking to goal #1 though I should be able to do it.
  3. Write 1  novel – BEHIND A BIT. Although I hadn’t planned to start drafting the novel until September, I wanted to have all 6 novellas finished first. Depending on how much progress I make over the next two months, I may have to consider either changing my goal of 6 novellas this year to 5 or have less time than I wanted to finish the novel.
  4. Redesign this website – DID IT. You’re looking at it now! (and I’m quite proud of how it turned out, I must say)
  5. Blog more frequently – DOING IT. I’ve been posting at LEAST once a week for several months now – a big accomplishment for me. I think I’m finally getting into a groove.
  6. Lose 25 pounds – BEHIND A BIT. The good news is I’ve lost a few inches and a dress size already so far. The stressful news is that half the year has passed, but so far I’ve only reached 1/4 of my weight-loss goal, despite the fact that I’ve been very successful at goal #7 …
  7. Exercise at least 4 days a week – DOING IT. I’ve been consistently working out 4 or 5 days a week for 40+ minutes for the past several months, and even managed to get my husband to join me most of the time. It is now a household routine.
  8. Submit a writing project every month – BEHIND A BIT. Of the 6 months this year I’ve probably submitted something 4 of the months. Not bad, but not quite there.
  9. Get Published – DOING IT. Although my book hasn’t been released yet, I do have a publishing contract, a book cover, and have completed a first round of edits. I am going to be a published author in 2010! :-D
  10. Go to at least 1 Writing Conference – DID IT. I went to my very first writing conference this April and had a great experience!

How are your 2010 goals and resolutions looking?

Um…um…I didn’t make any goals this year. But I will make one now. To go through and catalog all the ideas in my Cabinet of Wonders.

I don’t make goals much cause in my mind I’m setting myself up for failure…my life can be chaotic at times and I will stumble a great deal….

anyway…about your weight-loss goal….I follow a trainer on twitter…and I asked her about my struggles with weightloss…I too workout about 4 times a week…seeing no real results (to me anyway) in 2 months…so I sent her my routine and she said I needed to have a nutrition analysis …. so maybe you need to check what you are eating and how often to see if that will kickstart your weightloss…

Sounds like your goals are well in hand! Awesome! I’m still struggling with the 10 pounds I wanted to lose in January. Actually, I now need to lose 15 pounds. :) But I’ve started walking and counting calories.

Good job w/ your writing goals as well! Having goals pays off!

Beth – I understand completely about having a chaotic life *laughs* and if you look at all of the yellows and the red I have above, I stumble a great deal myself. But that’s also why I like writing down goals like this, because I get to see all of the ones that I have in green. It is motivating to see what I CAN accomplish despite all of the chaos, and the things that I’m struggling with.

Amber also made the same suggestion about me seeing a nutritionist. If I can’t get better results with the ideas I have in mind by the end of this month, I’ll see what one has to suggest for me.
