13 Paradoxes About Me

by ** Tatiana Caldwell ** on May.13.2010

If someone who’d never met me before were to say to me, “Tell me about yourself. Who are you? What are you like?” I’d probably blink and stare. I’m not so sure I could use words to tell anyone who I am and have it make sense because I’m not so sure that I make sense. Some people may see one side of me and others me see the opposite. People who see all of the conflicting traits of my personality – like my husband – just hug me and stroke my hair while saying “There, there. You’re crazy … but it’s going to be okay, baby.”

Some Paradoxes about me:

  1. I’m an extremely shy extrovert
  2. I’m an outgoing and flirty introvert
  3. I loathe parties but I can easily be the life of one
  4. Can’t stand looking at myself in the mirror but I like the way I look
  5. I can qualify to join MENSA but I’m deathly afraid of sounding stupid
  6. I’m a blind-folding, throat-choking, limb-binding, adventurous and likes-it-rough freak who thinks casual sex is a bit extreme
  7. Being on center stage terrifies me but I enjoy being the star of the show
  8. Story ideas come easily to me but I have a hard time getting them out
  9. I’m constantly at a loss for words but I talk way too much
  10. I hate jerks that I love
  11. I’m bold enough to bluntly speak my mind but I’m often afraid to
  12. The idea of alien abductions and visitation frightens me a bit but I love watching, reading and writing about alien visitation and abductions in romances
  13. I’m a we-are-the-world, save-the-dolphins-and-the-children, empathetic tree-hugger but I’m not sure that I really care

I’m a living, walking paradox. Am I the only one?

I think there's a bit of paradox in all of us. People are often surprised when they meet me that I'm not as confident and outgoing as I sound online.

Funny thing is, I think I'm actually a little more confident and outgoing in person than I am online. I know that the anonymity of the internet makes some people bolder, but the fact that whatever I post could be available for the entire planet to see forever humbles me greatly.

A clever idea for a list. Thanks for sharing. I think each of us are a contradiction on some level. Happy T13!

MENSA is waaay overrated. I'd rather be impressed by someone's intelligence and charisma then have them flash me a badge that tells me they're supposedly smarter than I am.

Then I take their lunch money.

I was going to agree with until you threatened to beat folks up.

Great list! I think people are often contradictions. It's what makes us interesting. After all, if we were the same all the time, there'd be no mystery.

Happy TT!

I think you're right. I also think we'd be interesting if we were all naked all the time … ;)

No you are not alone. I am the same way. Sometimes I confuse myself but I chalk it up to being a Gemini

Reply

** Tatiana Caldwell November 29, 1999 at 6:00 pm

Yeah, at least you can blame it on being a Gemini. I'm a Leo, I'm supposed to never feel shy or introverted or insecure!

Thanks for visiting, Blu! :-D

1,2 & 8 are all me. No wonder we get along like a house on fire.

You know what sucks? If we wrote a character based on our REAL character? It would never get published. "She doesn't make sense! She isn't consistent!!!"

Reply

** Tatiana Caldwell November 29, 1999 at 6:00 pm

You know what? This is SO true! It's like characters almost have to be extremely "something" instead of being portrayed as inconsistent or hypocritical as people are in real life. Very interesting observation, Jennifer.

LOL Ok, I can confidently cosign on all of these except 7 and 10. As for #11 that will change after you turn 40. Trust me.

Reply

** Tatiana Caldwell November 29, 1999 at 6:00 pm

Heh, are we that much alike?

And actually, I believe you about #11 changing after I turn 40. I can see me crossing over to the dark-side more and more each year.
