What helps me is to think up the point and plot of the story first and to create a light outline of the entire story from beginning to end before I start writing. I have always wanted to write a book, but I keep approaching it like I'm writing a paper and it doesn't work out for me. I don't know what keeps me coming up with a story that includes the plot and all, but it's some serious blockage! I am so happy for you, and wish you all the best with getting it to fruition.
